How many spaces are available in EYFS for September 2024

Our PAN for September 2024 is 60 spaces, split into two classes of 30 children.

What time does school start and finish?

Children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 start school at 8:50am and finish at 15:05pm.

A breakfast club runs from 7:30am and costs £5 a session to include cereal, toast and drink. An after school club currently runs until 17:45 every day and costs £12.00 a session to include a snack and a drink.

What are the transition arrangements?

During the summer term Mr Jackson (Headteacher), Mrs Williams (Deputy Headteacher) or Miss Wyatt (EYFS Lead) will visit or call all the Nursery Schools to visit our new starters with their key workers. This helps the creation of the class lists.

Parents are invited to an information evening and the children are invited to a teddy bear club afternoon session in July. They bring a cuddly toy along and meet with their class teacher, teaching assistant and other children in their class. They bring home with them a photo book with relevant information about starting school.

In September, the children benefit from a two week transition, ready to start full-time from the third week of school.

Do you offer tours during the school year?

We offer tours during the autumn term. The tours are normally in groups of 6 to 8 parents. Tour slots tend to get booked up well in advance so please contact our office team in September to reserve a space. To book a tour call our school office on 01202 727910. We highly reccomend tours as the best way to determine whether Avonwood is the right school for you and your child.

Who provides the hot meals for Avonwood?

Our meals are all freshly prepared by our on-site chef. There is always a vegetarian alternative and a dessert. You can find an example menu on the parents section of this website.

What should I do if I am unsuccessful when applying for a place at Avonwood?

If Avonwood is your chosen school we always encourage parents to place their child on our waiting list. Spaces will come up from time to time so please keep your childs name on our waiting list. To do this please contact our Admissions Officer, Catherine Batts, by emailing: admissions@avonwoodprimarschool.org.uk

Do class sizes ever exceed 30?

To date we have never gone beyond class sizes of 30. The main reason is to protect the standard of education on offer to children at Avonwood. The school was also purpose built to house class sizes of a maximum of 30 children.
