Head Girl & Head Boy Welcome

Head Girl

Hello, my name is Elizabeth, and I am so pleased to be Avonwood Primary School’s Head Girl for 2025-2026.

I want to give a warm welcome to all the new pupils and families and hope that your experiences of Avonwood will be as happy and positive as mine! Avonwood really is a brilliant school that promotes learning, creativity and friendship. The opportunities are far more than I ever imagined would be offered at school. My highlights so far include the school sleepover, forest school Friday, residential trip to Hooke court and day out to Paulton’s Park.

The staff at school are always supportive and you know that they want you to feel happy whilst you are learning and achieving your best. Subjects are taught so that they are interesting and real to life. If I had to pick my top three, they would be: Maths, Science and Reading. I picked maths because I love understanding numbers and solving problems. In science, I have enjoyed getting stuck in with experiments that include setting off my bike pump powered volcano in the school playground! We have been encouraged to read since Foundation Year and this has helped me find so many interesting and varied books. Some of my favourite books are the ones we have read in lessons. They are often unusual, quirky books that get the class talking and thinking. In year 2, I thoroughly enjoyed the “Katie” books by James Mayhew and ended up reading the whole series.

Our amazing school PTA organises some super events to raise money for the school and the Fireworks, Elfridges and Summer Fayre are always really memorable events. Avonwood also supports charities and this year I have the privilege of choosing to raise money for Dementia UK which is a charity that is close to my heart.

My advice for anyone starting at Avonwood is don’t be nervous, just be yourself, take advantage of opportunities and have a brilliant time! I have made many friends across classes and year groups. It is an amazing school.

Head Boy

Hello, my name is Diogo, and I am honoured to serve as the new Head Boy during my final year at Avonwood. To begin with, I would like to welcome all the new pupils and families joining our school community. You have a promising journey ahead of you, and I hope you enjoy your time here, as much as I have done.

Avonwood is an amazing school where every child can thrive, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to share with you what makes us unique.

We have a great team of teachers committed to ensuring we have the best possible learning experience, by making lessons interactive and worthwhile. This helps to cultivate an enthusiastic learning environment where pupils are excited to expand their knowledge and have fun. In addition, teachers encourage pupils to challenge themselves in all subjects, keeping them on their toes throughout the day.

During my years at Avonwood, I have noticed how many opportunities there are for the pupils to flourish outside of school as well. Pupils can participate in art, coding and sports clubs according to their interests. Additional activities include going to other schools for athletics and sports matches, the occasional inter-house competition, and writing competitions.

As Head Boy, alongside our Head Girl, I will take part in organising school fundraising events for our chosen charities, which may include mufti days, visits from charity representatives, and school-wide activities that raise both money and awareness. Taking part in these initiatives fills me with pride, as it gives us all a chance to give back to our wider community.

My chosen charity this year is Dorset Wildlife Trust as they do incredible work protecting our local environment, from keeping rare animals safe in nature reserves to creating marine protected areas along our coastline. They’re also committed to education, offering courses that teach us the importance of preserving the natural world.

To all our new pupils, I’d like to leave you with the following advice:

Make the most of every opportunity that our school offers you. Remember, every pupil is going through the same challenges of trying to make friends and trying to fit in. Be kind, be respectful, have fun.

Thank you, and I wish you all a fantastic year ahead.
