Head Girl & Head Boy Welcome

Home. 

It might mean and look like something a little bit different to each of us. But it’s the place we come from and go back to each day. 

For me, it’s a place I love and feel safe in.

And then there’s here… Avonwood. As I look back over my time here at this school, for me it’s been like a second home. A second family. A place where I’ve grown up and been looked after so well, where I’ve learnt so much and had a lot of fun along the way. It’s a place where I’ve been given so many amazing opportunities and where so many adults have gone out of their way to bring the best out in me, and in all of us. 

My name is Eliya and I feel so honoured to have been given the opportunity to be the new Head Girl for 2026-2027. Especially in a school like ours.

You don’t have to be here long to realise there’s something very special and unique about Avonwood. You just have to walk in to the school to feel it, and in to any classroom to see it. 

From every day engaging lessons to so many different experiences like the teddy bears’ picnic in Reception, Marwell Zoo in Year 1, visiting an airport with air stewards in Year 2 (a cleverly transformed school hall!), to camping out at school in Year 3, our residential trip to Harry’s Island and our Aladdin performance in Year 4, Paultons Park in Year 5…to just about everything possible squeezed into Year 6!  It is a school with the very best of teachers, TAs and the most amazing PTA! It is a place that cares so much about giving us all the very best learning environment, opportunities and experiences.   

I am so grateful for every single day I’ve had here. For the second home it is to me - a place I feel so safe, seen and encouraged and for all the amazing ways it has prepared me for secondary school. And I’m so excited for the year ahead - for the opportunity to represent Avonwood and proudly tell visitors about it and to be involved with various things like helping the school raise money for different charities that are close to all of our hearts. 

I can’t imagine life without Avonwood so I hope that you love it as much as I do and make the most of every day and every opportunity. I read this quote in the first Malory Towers book a couple of years ago and it has stuck with me…

“You will all get a tremendous lot out of your time at Malory Towers. See that you give a lot back!” 

I hope that as Head Girl, I am able to give back a fraction of what Avonwood has given to me. And I hope that as you go on your journey through Avonwood, you are able to give to it everything you can, knowing that this school will give you the very best primary years possible.
