Head Girl & Head Boy Welcome

Head Girl

Hello, my name is Beatrix and I am Avonwood Primary School’s Head Girl 2024-25.

I am over the moon to hold this important role and warmly welcome you to our incredible school. Learning here is spectacular as we get to enjoy so many thrilling and fascinating things all the time. The highlight of my time at Avonwood would have to be the Hooke Court adventure residential in Year 4, where we got to make bread, build dens with Y-sticks, cross the castle moat and even gut fish! Here, our extraordinary teachers are what make this school so special and unique; they put their all into making school life as engaging and valuable as possible. This helps us create a brighter future not just for our students, but for our whole community.

At Avonwood, we are encouraged by everyone to read everywhere, anywhere at any time possible. It’s incredible how much this helps us to not only increase our reading ability, but a passion to write too, as it gives us so many new, interesting phrases and words to find our own writer’s voice. Some of my favourite books have definitely been our DEAR reads (the books we read as a class), as they get you so hooked. It’s almost impossible to pick my absolute favourite subject, but if I had to pick my top three, they would probably be English (Writing), reading and science. English, because every time we write it allows our imagination and creativity to flow as freely as the vast ocean. Reading, because every single book we encounter makes me feel so alive and sometimes we even get to attend live author workshops! And, finally, science because we get to do so many exhilarating projects, like how we made parachutes in Year 5. It was awesome. But truly, I adore all subjects!

My top tip for anyone out there joining Avonwood is to just be yourself and don’t stress at all! You’ll meet so many marvellous teachers and make so many lifelong friends along the way and everyone makes sure to put you at ease. I’m unbelievably proud to be part of this outstanding school.

Head Boy

Hello, my name is Louie, and I am honoured to be Avonwood’s Head Boy for 2024/25. I would love to welcome all the new pupils and their families to this amazing school. I’m sure, like my sisters and I, you will all really enjoy your time at this wonderful school, as I have done over the last six years.

There are so many things at Avonwood primary that are truly special, including: all of the teachers that take their time to plan interesting lessons that allow all of the pupils to learn new subjects and important life skills that they will use throughout their lives. Also the PTA (Parent, teacher association) who work extremely hard all year round to provide fun and enjoyable fundraisers for school. These events include the amazing annual firework night celebration, the annual Summer Fair - where all pupils can volunteer to help with the fundraising as I did last year running a Penalty Shootout Stall, which was so much fun!

As Head Boy I have chosen as my charity this year to be Crohn’s and Colitis UK, we will have the chance to raise money throughout the year for this cause such as The Great Avonwood Pake-off (Purple Bake-off) and The Pufti Day (Purple Mufti)

Avonwood primary is the only primary school in Europe to follow these earth charter values:

  1. life
  2. interconnected
  3. family
  4. past
  5. earth
  6. peace
  7. love
  8. future

I feel so grateful and privileged to attend such a wonderful primary school with such meaningful values.
