Avonwood Primary School is proud to be an outward facing centre of excellence, offering a range of support packages to help schools strengthen their curriculum, pedagogy and strategic development. Our outreach work spans research engagement, leadership of national hubs, instructional coaching, digital strategy, and wider sector collaboration.

Support packages available: 

  • *Visit to Avonwood & discussion with leaders: £250
  • Half-day outreach support: £300
  • Full outreach support: £600

*This could include up to six staff members coming to see our school in action and having a Q&A opportunity with leaders


1. ResearchED Partnership & Evidence Informed Practice Support

Organising, coordinating and hosting and ‘researchED by the Beach’, Avonwood staff help bridge the gap between educational research and classroom practice. This reflects our commitment to connecting research with real world practice in schools.

We offer:

  • Opportunities to hear from leading thinkers and voices in the education sector
  • Workshops on embedding evidence‑based strategies.
  • Support for schools wanting to strengthen research‑engaged cultures.
  • Speaker sessions and CPD inspired by the latest educational thinking.

2. Maths Leadership Support

Avonwood’s Deputy Headteacher, Joe Jackson Taylor, has extensive experience in primary mathematics, being part of the Jurassic Maths Hub since 2017 (and fortunate to join the DfE’s exchange partnership to Shanghai), mathematics SLE and an accredited NCETM Professional Development Lead.

Schools can access: 

  • Maths mastery development sessions.
  • Coaching for subject leaders on curriculum sequencing.
  • Support to implement hub‑endorsed teaching approaches.

3. Instructional Coaching for School Improvement

As an outward looking school, Avonwood believes strongly in contributing to the wider sector. Our team offers instructional coaching designed to raise the quality of teaching and learning across schools and has been using Steplab for several years as a vehicle for successful implementation.

Support packages include:

  • Support to establish school‑wide coaching frameworks.
  • Group rehearsal sessions to help establish core routines.
  • 1:1 teacher coaching cycles to support individual teacher growth.
  • Leadership coaching for subject and phase leaders.

4. Digital Strategy & Technology Enhanced Learning

Avonwood views giving back to the sector as part of its mission to improve life chances for all children. To remain at the forefront of educational technology, Avonwood has been a key part of United Learning’s exciting SEND Pathfinder project seeking to increase equitable access to education through the innovative use of tech.

Support available:

  • Training on effective classroom use of digital tools.
  • Support for whole‑school approaches to digital literacy and innovation.
  • Guidance on developing or refreshing school‑level digital strategies, including leveraging AI.

5. Specialist School to School Support

Avonwood takes pride in supporting schools both locally and nationally through the following specialist areas:

  • Oracy framework and classroom practice implementation.
  • Pedagogical development aligned to research‑informed practice.
  • Leadership development and capacity building.
  • Outreach consultancy tailored to individual school needs.

These specialisms stem from Avonwood’s ethos as an outward facing school committed to sector improvement.  


6. Additional Sector & Community Contributions

Avonwood’s commitment to educational excellence is reflected across the school’s wider work, including:
