We will start off the new school year with our geography topic, ‘Here I am’. We will locate our school in our local area and identify local physical and human features on a map and during fieldwork - we will carry out our own observational sketches on our trip to Kings Park.
Next, we will be delving into our family’s history and finding out more about members of our family. We will host a wonderful grandparents afternoon tea to help us celebrate these family connections.
To start our spring term, we will look at ‘Where we are’ in geography where we will be locating our local area in the UK and identifying the four countries of the UK, as well as looking at key human and physical features. We will finish this unit by celebrating with a ‘culture day.’ In the second part of the term, we will be looking at ‘How the journey has changed’ in history lessons, and we will host our very own DIY Beaulieu at Avonwood!
In our last term, we will begin with our geography topic, ‘There you are’. In this unit, we will understand where we live on a global scale. We will be naming and locating continents and we will be making comparisons between the human and physical features of the UK with an area in Kenya. We will bring our learning to life in science and geography with a wonderful trip to Marwell zoo.
We will be rounding off our year together with our ‘Homes through time’ history topic where we will study how homes looked different in the past, using pictures and videos. Our trip to Highcliffe Castle will be sure to bring this learning to life!
