High Quality Books

At Avonwood, we are careful to choose books for our library and for our curriculum that will challenge our children and stay with them long after they have finished reading them; we want them to remember what we have read together, have a canon of stories, information and poems in their memory, and experience the best that has been thought and said.

We choose our books using recommendations from curriculum advisers and organisations such as the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE)  and the National Literacy Trust. You can find a breakdown of the books we read each half term on our reading curriculum pages.

Our Library

Children visit our libraries regularly to change and find new and exciting books. We are constantly adding to our stock and rotating what is displayed here in order to ensure we have a wide and interesting diet of reading material. If you are able to help with our library, please speak to our office.

Book fairs from Scholastic and Usborne are a great way for us to add to our library as we get book credits from each event. We are also thrilled to receive donations of books from parents of new and nearly new books. If you would like to help us by gifting such books, then do look at our Amazon wish list here.
