In the section below you will be able to find out about the admissions process for Avonwood Primary School. Should you have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to contact us via our admissions help desk email:

Our open evening is taking place on Thursday 7th October. More details, including how to book places, can be found on the flyer below:

If you intend to apply for a place at Avonwood via the 'In Year Fair Access' protocol, more information can be found here.

Our PAN for September 2022 is 60 spaces, split into two classes of 30 children.

We surveyed exisiting parents in September 2021 and just 8 families have siblings planning to apply for places.

Children in EYFS and Key Stage 1 start school at 8:50am and finish at 3:05pm.

A breakfast club runs from 7:30am and costs £5.00 a session to include cereal, toast and drink. An after school club currently runs until 6.00pm every day and costs £14.00 a session to include a snack and a drink.

During the summer term Mr Jackson (Headteacher) or Mrs Williams (Deputy Headteacher) will visit or call all the Nursery Schools to discuss our new starters with their key workers. This helps the creation of the class lists.

Parents are invited to an Information evening and the children are invited to two teddy bear club sessions in July. They bring a cuddly toy to these sessions and meet with their class teacher, teaching assistant and other children in their class. They bring home with them a photo book with relevant information about starting school.

We normally offer day time tours during the Autumn term. The tours are normally in groups of 6 to 8 parents. Tour slots tend to get booked up well in advance so please contact our office team in September to reserve a space. Due to being heavily over subscribed we are unable to offer addional tours later in the school year. To book a tour call our school office on 01202 727910.

Our meals are all freshly prepared by our on-site chef. There is always a vegetarian alternative and a dessert. You can find an example menu on the parents section of this website.

If Avonwood is your chosen school we always encourage parents to place their child on our waiting list. Spaces will come up from time to time so please keep your childs name on our waiting list. To do this please contact our Admissions Officer, Catherine Batts, by emailing:

To date we have never gone beyond class sizes of 30. The main reason is to protect the standard of education on offer to children at Avonwood. The school was also purpose built to house class sizes of a maximum of 30 children.

Appeal Hearing Dates - Between 8 June and 30 July 2021

  • Due to the current Coronavirus Pandemic, in line with legislation, all appeals lodged before 30 September 2021 are being heard based on written information only.
  • Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • You will receive at least 14 calendar days’ notice of your appeal hearing date.
  • Appeals are normally heard during the daytime on weekdays and are not normally heard during school holidays unless essential to avoid un-necessary delays.
  • Where there are a number of parents all appealing for places at the same school, the hearings may go over a number of days.
  • The school’s case will be dispatched to parents and Panel members at least 7 calendar days before the start of the appeal hearing.
  • The Panel will set a deadline for any additional evidence to be received.
  • Following the hearing, decision letters will be sent, where possible, within 7 calendar days of the end of the hearing.  During busy periods, such as main entry, full decision letters may take longer than this, so the Clerk will send a brief decision summary letter in the interim.
